Also, needs and wishes regarding the interaction with ICT solutions change over time and vary between older adults. They depend on the user’s physical and cognitive capabilities and his/her preferences. For many years researchers and developers have been trying to automatize the process of user interface generation with different approaches. This tutorial will give participants insights into, and hands-on experience with the results of the research project AALuis (www.AALuis.eu). The project provides a solution to connect various ICT services to different types of user interfaces and offers thereby interaction in the user’s preferred way. It uses an interaction model to describe the interaction flow of the service and a user interface generation process. It takes user’s preferences and capabilities, as well as the context of interaction (e.g., properties of available devices, the environment, etc.) into account. The basic concept is to detach the functionality of the service and its presentation for the user, and to provide a standardized way to use the framework embedded into or connected to existing AAL platforms, such as HOMER or UMO. This tutorial will start with an introduction to the concept of automatic user interface generation for various I/O devices and I/O modalities and will describe the AALuis framework. The focus will be on deploying the user interface generation framework with selected examples. This tutorial will deal with all steps to be conducted to ensure that the end user can benefit from the service, using it in his/her preferred way with generated user interfaces. The final goal is that all participants have a first impression of the presented solution and are able to start using the solution for their daily work and research. |
